Abstract

Among all the religions of the world, Islam and Christianity have their own particular importance in the sense that the world peace consists in the dynamics of their bilateral relationship. If we survey the historical pages, we find that Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) tried his best to create a congenial atmosphere for the productive growth of relationships with the Christians. Even the four caliphs and their forthcoming rulers followed the footsteps of Hazrat Muhammad (SAW). Despite of all positive efforts on the part of Muslims, many Christian scholars preferred to be corrosive and poignant towards the Muslims. They tried to pave the ways of conflicts, hatred, prejudice and wars between the two sectors, but the Muslim scholars took the defensive measures to counter these scholarly onslaughts. The Muslim scholars re-established the true identity of Islamic values which were mutilated and deformed by the Orientalists. All these measures and historical events demand a serious scrutiny on the part of researchers. In other words, the literature of the clash of ideas between Muslim scholars and Orientalists provides a wide canvas for research, and the present article endeavors to work on the same canvas.
